As a artist, I'm inspired by anything. A song. An advertisement. A story. A film. I think mostly it's a feeling, a vibe. When I create a beauty look, I always ask my girl, "how do you want to look?" Bad. Good. Hot. Pretty. Elegant. The Rebel. The Lady. Strong. Sassy. We dress, style our hair, and paint up our faces based on a feeling. So how am I feeling lately? I've nicknamed it GlamGrunge. It's a look that has elements of hard and soft. Dark, but with shine. Pretty, but focused towards the edge. Tomboy fashion accessories, but with over-the-top glammy rhinestones thrown on top. A clash of inspirations, really. Here's a look at how my feeling would look:
Fav Fashion Mags: ELLE UK, V, Style.com/print. Besides fashion mags, that I buy in bulk like I'm at Costco, Instagram and YouTube are constant inspirations. Following up with amazing artists and individuals on these sites takes me back to my time studying studio arts in college. My favorite days were critique days. An entire community of artists gather around, show each other their advances and creativity, sharing feedback. Instagram, though not anywhere near as intimate, gives me that same feeling of community and really sparks imagination.
Here are my top 5 IGErs that have been feeding my soul lately:
@nikkietutorials - my guru obsession. This girl can do no wrong.
@sukiwaterhouse - the perfect "lady" with an edge. Classic meets modern in this bombshell.
@queenbitchelvis - instant hair envy. Daring. Confident.
@badgalriri - duh. Just duh.
@emilycaitlan - personal friendy. Super talent powers.
So the question still remains... Where do you find your inspiration? Leave a comment. Share with friends. Happy weekend! Keep it inspired, Joey.
